From Innsbruck to the ski resort

Still in the city and already on the slopes just a little bit later: from Innsbruck you can reach a whole range of ski resorts in no time at all. Nine six resorts in total are spread out over the metropolitan area of Innsbruck and its holiday villages. From nursery slopes to black runs and options for touring skiers there is room for every kind of winter sports enthusiast. Whether it's the Nordkette with Seegrube and Hafelekar just outside the city, the Patscherkofel, Muttereralm, Glunzeger-Tulfes, Axamer Lizum, Rangger Köpfl or right into the Stubai Valley to the Schlick 2000 ski centre or up the glacier.

Cross-country skiers will also find numerous and above all snow guaranteed trails in Tyrol. Besides the trails in Innsbruck's holiday villages you can use the perfectly prepared network of trails in the Olympic region of Seefeld not far from the regional capital. Seefeld in Tyrol is situated just 20 minutes away from Innsbruck and has some trails with artificial snow.


A day trip to one of the numerous toboggan runs in Tyrol is worth it in winter. The Tyrolean mountains around Innsbruck have several professional luge runs including hire and trip up the mountain by ski lift. One highlight is Tyrol's longest natural toboggan run, the 9 km long Pinnistal toboggan run in the Stubai valley. Three evenings a week it invites you to enjoy some very special fun with flood lighting.

Cycling and mountain biking

As one of the most bike-friendly cities in Austria, Innsbruck makes it easy for cyclists thanks to the perfect infrastructure. Due to its special geographical location you can find yourselves surrounded by nature and up the mountain in no time at all. Many mountain bike and downhill trails lead through Innsbruck's urban area, there are 115 kilometres of mountain bike trails in every level of difficulty in the region. Anyone looking for a leisurely route can cycle for kilometres along the Inn cycle path and its side routes.

Running and Nordic walking

The city of Innsbruck offers a selection of 45 running and walking routes for running and Nordic walking. Starting from eight possible different points they cross the city and into the surrounding recreational areas. The signs follow the ski slope colour system and depending on the length of the route reveal to you what you can expect.

Wherever there is snow in winter, the stunning nature around Innsbruck is populated with hikers and other mountain sports enthusiasts in the summer. From a short walk to a day tour to sporting mountain tours, all options are open to you. For example, complete the panorama route on the Seegrube with view over Innsbruck or climb up to the Hafelekar peak not far from the cable car top station without much effort. What is particularly wonderful is stopping at a hospitable mountain inn at the end of your hike and sampling the delicious mountain hut treats.

Climbing and bouldering

From via ferrata to family friendly climbing gardens to indoor climbing and bouldering, Innsbruck offers all the options for climbing. One popular playground is for example the Nordkette climbing arena.
